Reports - Chambers Lake Basin

The draft Chambers Basin Moratorium Evaluation Report is now available (see below).

Background Information:

In 2006, the Olympia City Council responded to drainage and flooding concerns by declaring a moratorium on grading and subdividing in the area south and southwest of Chambers Lake. (See map.)

Public Process:

  • A Public informational meeting was held on September 4, 2007
  • A public hearing was held on September 18, 2007.

The primary proposed actions of the plan are:

(1) Amend the City's Capital Facilities Plan (CFP) to include installation of a new development-funded stormwater line along the west side of Wiggins Road.

(2) Adopt interim land use zoning and development standards to apply to subdivisions in the poorly drained area east of Wiggins Road. These would require special types of streets, impose a maximum housing density of four units per acre and limit total impervious surfaces to ten percent of the area.

(3) End the moratorium in the area east of Wiggins Road, but continue it in the area west of Wiggins Road until the CFP amendment is enacted on about January 1, 2008.

(4) In 2008, review and adopt appropriate changes to the City's Comprehensive Plan.
